Wim Kemps

I have lived in Genderbeemd since 1987. In the past I have done a lot of volunteer work, usually as chairperson, at Basco, GVAC, Metzpoint, Bridgeclub, Bridge district, and PVGE. Now that I have more time on my hands I volunteered to join the SBG board as chairperson, mainly because I want to contribute to the wellbeing of our inhabitants. What that means exactly, remains to be seen. We’re all committed to improve wellbeing but we can only help if our inhabitants let us know what they expect.

I came to live in Eindhoven 30 years ago, first in Blaarthem, on the other side of the river Gender. Then 15 years ago, we moved to the Genderbeemd. We did not want to move far away due to the pleasant living environment and convenient location: in 10 minutes we can cycle to the city or to the countryside (Dommel, Klotputten) and there is the nearby good road network. A vacancy in the neighbourhood newsletter, which I always read, made me realise that it was time to make a contribution to this pleasant neighbourhood. Thus, it happened…

I have been living in this beautiful neighbourhood since 2005 and have been active as a volunteer for 10 years, organising the annual street parties in my own street. I had felt I wanted to make a broader commitment to the entire neighbourhood for some time.

When I read the repeated call for new volunteers in the june issue, I thought the time was right to take action. Since then, I have met the other committee members and attended a first board meeting. Currently the tasks are being transferred to me by Reinier. Since he has fulfilled these duties for over 20 years, he has a lot of experience to pass on. I am going to be 100% committed to performing these duties in good conscience, as well as he did.
