In 2019, a project in the Genderbeemd led to the expansion of the AED network, this action has also been written about in the info sheet and on this site. This was the project of Claudia (first by Willem), which AED is now available at Goudestein 43 (SBG Newsletter March 2019). Claudia has recommended to also get an AED in the area “on the other side of the Genderbeemd”. That will now be this project around the Groeneveld, which we offer you here.

Saving lives with AED in Genderbeemd

If your roommate or local resident suffers cardiac arrest, what then? Every year about 17,000 people in the Netherlands experience cardiac arrest outside the hospital. In 70% of cases such cardiac arrest takes place at home. In cardiac arrest, it is important to start resuscitation as soon as possible. A resuscitation has a greater chance of success if within 6 minutes (source: Cardiac arrest and resuscitation - facts and figures - Hartstichting) civilian rescuers with the AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) are on site to start the resuscitation. The emergency services take over the resuscitation. However, they usually have arrival times that are longer than 6 minutes. That is why it is important that there are several registered AEDs in each neighbourhood.

How does the resuscitation call system work?

In case of cardiac arrest you always call 112 immediately. The CPR call system HartslagNu will immediately send civilian emergency responders from the area to start CPR while the ambulance is on the way. We, a few local residents “on the other side of the Genderbeemd”, have now started a new campaign via the same platform BuurtAED.nl to raise money to get a life-saving AED in the neighbourhood. The reason is: We do not want to be left empty-handed when a local resident is affected by a heart failure. Together we provide good resources such as an AED. Together for each other, one less thing to worry about.

Therefore: Participate and donate an amount for this second AED, as much as it is worth to you, on the BuurtAED website because your contribution is needed for an AED on the northeast side of the Genderbeemd, located at Groeneveld. You can donate on BuurtAED.nl via
