Keeping the streets clean

I often walk around the neighborhood, and unfortunately, quite often I see trash on the ground. Usually cigarette packages, plastic bags/bottles either on the grass, in the bushes, or under some trees. It looks ugly, and what’s worse, it sets the precedent, that trash being on the ground is OK. What I mean by this is: If you see some trash on the ground, then you don’t feel as bad also dropping your own trash onto the ground – it seems to fit into the background.

What can we do about it:

  • If you see trash on the ground, pick it up. Or if you cannot, at the moment, then please notify this to the Eindhoven municipality, by using the ‘Buiten Beter’ app. (If enough notifications come in, perhaps a couple of trash cans will be added)
  • If you see someone accidentally drop trash on the ground, then ask them kindly to pick it up. They might be too ashamed to act on it at the same moment, but next time hopefully they will think twice: This reinforces the culture, that we all care for our environment and surroundings.
  • The more we work together, to keep the environment clean, the more we send a message to everyone, that we value a clean and tidy environment.
  • Would you like to join you neighbors for a street cleaning action? We all get together and clean the streets a bit, and also meet your neighbors. Does this idea speak to you? Let us know!

Sincerely,

Priit, SBG Milieu en omgeving.
